Family hiking in the Hochkönig

Familien wandern im Hochkoeing

There are 340km of hiking trails in the Hochkönig, and there are hikes for all abilities and lengths of time!

You can hike directly from the house, or you can take the hiking bus to your chosen hiking spot, and either use the mountain lifts, and walk from there, or walk from the bus stop.  The hiking bus and mountain lifts are free with the Hochkönig Card we give you as part of your stay with us!

Here we will show you some of the family hiking trails in the Hochkönig that our guests love!

Family hiking - to Zachofalm

Take the hiking bus towards Dienten, and get off at the Dachegg stop – where the chairlifts are (these chairlifts do not work in summer).  If you are driving, there are a large carpark there.

Follow the sign to Zachofalm, past Liebenaualm, and up onto the forest path. Follow the path up, and take in the the views of the Hochkönig on your way up!

It takes approximately 45 minutes to hike up to Zachofalm, and if you take the “short cut” for the last few hundred metres through the forest, you can see the herb and flower gardens.

Zachofalm is renouned for it’s food and drinks made with home grown herbs and orgnaic products.  Make sure you stop for refreshments, or some tasty delights, and take in the views! Our favourites here are the herbal drinks, and the pickled vegetable and herb pancakes!

You can also relax by the pool area, and dip your feet in the pool to cool down!

Family hiking to Steinbockalm

Either drive to the top of Filzen sattel, in between Dienten amd Hinthertal, or take the bus to Dienten, then change and take the bus to Maria Alm, and get off the bus at Filzen Sattel stop.

Follow the signs opposite the carpark up to Steinbockalm, and take in the views!

It takes about 1.5 hours to get to the top of Gabühel, where Steinbockalm is, and you have amazing 360 degree views!  Stop for some refreshments and tasty food – they have a nice choice of salads, and specials, and their pizzas are loved by many!

Family Hiking from Arthurhaus to Erichhütte

This is a longer walk, so better for families with slightly older children.  It takes about 4.5 hours in total wihtout stops.  It is one of the favourites for many guests as there is not much uphill walking! You start at approx 1500m, and the highest point is just over 1600m.

Take the bus from the village up to Arthurhaus, right to the top.  Then follow the signs toward Winraucheggalm, and the Vier Hütten.  You pass Rieding Wasserfälle, waterfalls along the way.

There are many mountains huts to stop off along the way to pick up refreshments and snacks.  We love the Vier Hütten, as they are very pretty and have great views!

When you get to Erichhütte, you then drop down to the main road, and pick up the bus from the bus stop back to Mühlbach am Hochkönig.

There are so many more family hikes in the area – ask us during your stay if you would like some more recommendations!
