Hiking in the Hochkönig – Zachofalm

Zachofalm Hochkoenig
Hiking in the Hochkönig is fantastic- we have 340km of hiking trails, and you can choose how long, how short and how difficult or easy.
Haus Schneeberg, holiday apartments, Mühlbach am Hochkönig, is the perfect place to start your hiking in the Hochkönig!

This hike is a relatively short one, and fairly easy, and has fantastic views of the Hochkönig, and the surrounding area. It takes you to Zachhofalm, and takes about 45 minutes to get there, so a round trip of 1.5 hours, but remember to leave some time to enjoy refreshments at the alm!

The best place to start is from the parking area at Dachegg, by Liebenaualm. This is just 10 minutes in the car or by the hiking bus from the house.
From there, take the forestry path and just follow the signs to Zachhofalm.

There are some lovely views across to the Hochkönig on the way up, and the final section is a little steeper and takes you through the woods, and then through the flower and herb garden of Zachhofalm.

Then you reach the alm, and the pond, and you can take in the view over to Klingspitz and Aberg. Chestnut loves to cool off in the pond, and sometimes we like to dip our feet it! There is plenty of seating to take in the view and relax.

Zachhofalm are renowned for their cooking with local alpine herbs, and hold seminars where you can learn how to cook with them.
They have lots of tasty herbal drinks, and food made with the local herbs.
We love the Holunderblueten water (elderflower), and the pancakes with picked vegetables and herbs.
They also sell lots of herbal remedies.

Once you have relaxed, enjoyed the view, sampled the local fayre, and browsed the wares, you can take a gentle stoll back down the hill.
