The Hochkönig region is renouned for it’s culinary delights, and we highly recommend you try out a few of the mountain restaurants during your stay. Here are a few of our favourite mountain restaurants!
Karbachalm, Mühlbach am Hochkönig
In a perfect position just under the top station of the Karbachalmbahn. Great for a place to meet non skiers!
Take the mountian lift up in the summer, walk to the top of Schneeberg, and stop at the Karbachalm on the way down!
They have a great menu with a varied choice, and also offer many specials throughout the year!
We love the days when they have the Roas- folk music bands playing live!
Their sunny terrace offers beautiful views, and they have a water playpark next to it, perfect for the children, and the start of the marble track trail is just above, as well as Toni’s Almspielplatz!

Tiergartenalm Mühlbach am Hochkönig
On the piste down from the top of Kings Cab towards Mühlbach.
Great on a sunny day as it has a south facing terrace, and the indoor eating area has traditional decor and fantastic views. There is a self service area and a serviced area. We recommend the daily specials – we have never been disappointed!
Zachhofalm, Dienten
Under the Zachhof lift, Dienten.
This alm offers organic, local produce. In the summer they have a herb garden, which they use in their tasty dishes all year around. They also have some home made product for sale such as oils and herbs. We love the pancakes with cream cheese and pickled vegetables, and the homemade gluhwein, and they quite often have a home made special for desert!

Steinbockalm, Dienten
At the top of Gabühel, in between Dienten and Hinterthal.
They pride themselves on top quality gourmet food, and employ 2 gourmet chefs. The Schweinsbraten (roast pork) is in our opinion, the best in the region. It also has fantastic views, a great outside sitting area, and when it’s snowing, a lovely roaring fire inside.
The Skiers breakfast is one of our favourites, and the Alm Jausen – picnic plate with meats and cheeses, is one of the best in the region!
It also is open late on Thursday evenings in the ski season so you can finish off your skiing day with a meal and ski down after the pistes have closed. Note that there are no buses in between Dienten and Mühlbach in the winter, so you will need alternative transport to get back to the village after the ski lifts close.
Great to hike to from Filzensattel in summer or winter!

Zapferlalm, Mühlbach am Hochkönig
Next to the bottom of Kings Cab
Great for Apres Ski- fantastic atmosphere with great staff!
You can reserve for an evening meal, and get a ride up and down with the skidoo!
Scheppal Alm, Mühlbach am Hochkönig
On the 1a blue family run down to Mühlbach.
A good last stop for Apres Ski!
A good range of vegan and vegetarian dishes, and they have Roast chickon on a spit special on Saturdays and Sundays.
Their Tagliata with ratatouille we can definitely recommend!
It is approx. a 40 min walk from Haus Schneeberg, so you can also eat here in the evening and have a digestive walk back, or stop here at the end of your ski day and ski back via the skiweg, subject to snow conditions!
König und Kuh, Dienten
In between Mühlbach and Dienten, at Dachegg
This has been refurbished recently, and the new bar and restaurant area provide a welcoming and sunny place to eat and meet up!
Their organic homemade burgers are the best in the area and there are multi variants for you to try!
They are also open in the evenings in Winter, and serve a Tartaren Hut – you cook your meat on a hot metal hood, served with extras. It also turns into Apres Ski and dicso in teh evening!
Closed in summer.

Gabühelhütte, Dienten
On the 21 red piste from the top of Gabühel towards Dienten.
We love the Black pudding Gröstl! (black pudding in mixture of fried potato, onions, bacon bits and vegetables.)
They also have a great variation on Kaisersmarren – Bilberry / Blueberry Kaisersmarren from local Blueberries.
In autumn, they celebrate the autumn festival and offer roast lamb and goat!
There is a great playpark for children next to it, so you can sit and relax, whilst the children play!

Schweizerhütte, Mühlbach am Hochkönig
Up at Hochkeil, behind Arthurhaus
A fantastic experience for cheese lovers! Every Thursday night the cosy restaurant opens to do cheese fondues with their own blend of cheeses. You will need to reserve, as seating is limited and it is very popular!
Deantnerin, Dienten
On the side of the red piste next to the Buergleralmbahn in Dienten.
Modern, stylish, and tateful, withtasty food, any fantastic views of the piste.
We can recommend the breakfast, but make sure you order!

Tom's Alm Hut, Maria Alm
At the top of Natrun, this is a perfact lunch stop if you are doing the Königstour in winter, or if you are visiting Prinzensee in Summer.
Another stylish, comptempory hut, with a sunny balcony with views to Aberg
In summer, they have a help yourself BBQ on Sundays.

Bärmooshütte, Maria Alm
Take the Aberg bahn up, or hike up in summer! Wonderful views, amazing value ribs, and mixed grill with Spaetzle.
In summer, they have a help yourself BBQ on Sundays.
